On Wednesday, the American Study Centre of Quaid-e-Azam University organised a party on celebrating US National Day on July 4.

Since this is the only centre in Pakistan that deals in American Studies, so the purpose of endeavour was to further its legacy. A cake-cutting ceremony was held under interim director Dr Sadia.

After that, in order to mix Pakistani culture along with celebrating US National Day, folk music of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai was presented by a Sindhi band which was invited from Jamshoro.

Dr Sadia said that the relations between Pakistan and US are not ideal as of now as the new US administration has been quite critical of Pakistan’s role in war on terror while Pakistan is going through a turbulent election these days, but it may hugely improve, given a serious effort in terms of diplomacy.

“We need to set our priorities straight and must have clarity when dealing with our American counterparts,” she added.

Another dignitary, Dr Tahir was of the opinion that in face of every difficulty, American people and their government were among the first ones to help Pakistan, be that the 2005 devastating earthquake or the 2010 horrific floods.

A senior PhD scholar Sana Tariq said that we all have gathered here today in regard to US National Day.

“We send our best wishes to the people of US and we hope that relations between our two countries become better,” she said.

MPhil and PhD students of the centre participated with full enthusiasm, singing songs and performing on stage. The event concluded with a hi-tea for all.
