Traders should keep markets clean, says caretaker CM

“Traders and shopkeepers should keep market areas clean and shun the practice of throwing trash on the road,” said Caretaker Chief Minister (CM) Fazal-ur-Rehman while talking to a delegation of Tariq Road Traders Welfare Association on Thursday.

During his visit to Tariq Road on Thursday, the caretaker CM expressed his displeasure over the fact that the shopkeepers had thrown trash and other waste from their shops on the road.

“It is a newly built road and instead of keeping in cleaning we are defacing and destroying it,” the CM chided.

“Traders should maintain cleanliness properly and shopkeepers associations including Tariq Road traders should educate their members,” he added.

The caretaker CM also directed district administration East to ensure proper cleanliness of Tariq Road. Chief Minister asked the deputy Commissioner and DMC East to make sure that Tariq Road was being cleaned regularly.

Aslam Bhatti, Kaleem Shaheryar, Asad Toufique, Fawad Hussain and others members of Tariq Road Association told the CM that they would taking appropriate steps in this regard.

Tariq Road Traders Welfare Association members informed the CM that a two kilometer long white flag, a flag for peace, had been hoisted in the area. The members added that the Association had a plan to launch a flag at Sea View where people would be encouraged to promote peace in the country.

In response to this, the CM directed culture department to support association in launching white flag of peace.

CM briefed on civic entities

Meanwhile, Fazal-ur-Rehman chairing a joint meeting of Association of Builders and Developers (ABAD), officials of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) and Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) directed civic entities to resolve the pending no objection certificate (NOC) issues of ABAD pertaining applications for old and newly launched projects pending with KWSB.

The Managing Director KWSB, Khalid Shaikh said that water was not available so NOCs for new water connections could not be issued.

He informed the CM that KWSB would start issuing NOCs when K-IV-a bulk water project would be completed.

He also quoted Supreme Court decision under which he could not issue NOCs until more water was provided to Karachi.

On this Chief Minister directed MD to get the court decision interpreted. He constituted a four-member committee with two members from ABAD, one member from KWSB and one member from SBCA to sit together, settle their issues and report to him accordingly.

Additional Chief Secretary Environment and Coastal Development, Mukhtiar Soomro, Secretary to CM Hafeez Umrani, Secretary Local Government, Khalid Hyder Shah, DG SBCA, Iftikhar Qaimkhani, Chairman ABAD Arif Yousif Jeewa and members Sohail Warind, Altaf Tai, Junaid Ashraf and others also attended meeting.

CM meets Consul General of Germany

Meanwhile, Consul General of Germany, Ortwin Hening called on Sindh Chief Minister. They discussed bilateral matters of trade and energy.

CM presented memento, ajrak and a Sindhi cap to the envoy.
