5,177 cases received by Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances in May

ISLAMABAD: A total of 5,177 cases have been received up to May 31, 2018 to the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances, Islamabad.

During June, 2018, 36 more cases were received by the commission and now the total numbers of the cases are 5,213.

According to the commission, out of 5,213 cases, 3,331 cases have been disposed of up to June 30 due to the personal efforts of Justice Javed Iqbal who is also the president of the commission.

It is important to note that the commission during the month of June, disposed of 67 cases and the balance numbers of cases are now 1,815.

The commission has conducted 537 hearings, out of which 204 are from Islamabad, 169 in Karachi, 73 in Lahore and 91 in Quetta.

As per sources, Justice Javed has been lauded for his exceptional performance as president of the commission.

Due to the National Accountability Bureau chief’s personal interest and efforts, the commission has recovered more than 3,331 missing persons, besides ensuring their safe return to their homes, according to sources.

The sources said that as president of the commission, Justice Javed Iqbal performed his duties even on holidays without receiving any remuneration and salary. Relatives of missing persons have appreciated the remarkable services of Justice Javed Iqbal for not using any government resources and seriously pursuing the cause of recovering missing persons by using his own resources.
