Govt set to raise petroleum prices

ISLAMABAD: All preparations are underway to drop petrol bombshell on people amid the reports that OGRA has sent summary to finance ministry for scaling up petroleum products prices by Rs 3 per liter.

Sources said that OGRA through its summary has requested the Finance Ministry to increase the price of petrol Rs 1 per liter, diesel Rs one and a half per liter and price of kerosene oil Rs three per liter.

Last month, the government had revised the prices of petroleum products for the next fortnight.

Addressing a news conference, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar had said that the prices of light diesel oil and kerosene will remain intact.

He had said the price of petrol will be increased by one rupee and seventy-seven paisa per liter and high speed diesel oil by two rupees per liter.

He said that the government treasury will bear the burden of 2.75 billion rupees as subsidy for this period on petroleum products.

Dar had said OGRA had proposed 14 rupees and 31 paisa increase in kerosene oil, 10 rupees and 11 paisa increase in light diesel oil, 3 rupees and 94 paisa increase in high speed diesel oil and 1 rupee and 77 paisa increase in petrol. He had said the government kept the prices of the petroleum products stable since April last year.
