Building dams not judiciary’s job: Bilawal

NAWABSHAH: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Wednesday criticised the superior judiciary for what he said meddling into the domain of the elected governments.

“Judiciary is not responsible for construction of dams anywhere in the world … it is the responsibility of the governments,” he told a press conference at Zardari House in Nawabshah. Stressing that the water crisis is one of the biggest issues the country is currently facing, the PPP chief said it is up to the elected governments to find a solution to the issue. “PPP has always raised the issue of water scarcity and struggled to resolve it,” he said, adding that they have built a number of small dams across Sindh province.

Addressing a rally in Sindh’s Sakrand area, Bilawal said the political parties who have so far not even unveiled their manifestos are challenging them in the general elections scheduled for July 25. “Taliban Khan and the one asking ‘why was I ousted’ … both have no manifestos. How can they contest us?” he asked.

The PPP chairman while thanking his supporters for the warm welcome during his tour of the province said, “I have faith that the nation will support us. I also urge the puppet alliance to have faith in the nation.” He further said, “Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) should not quit the electoral race fearing defeat. All political parties should contest the election.”

Responding to a question, Bilawal said, “We want the elections to be held on time … may be other parties want the elections delayed so that they can rig or come into power through wrong channels,” he said, adding that boycotting the elections is not a wise decision.

“You are the people who have defeated dictators like Zia-ul-Haq and Pervez Musharraf,” Bilawal told the crowd. He said after coming into power, PPP will provide interest-free loans to farmers and introduce food cards to alleviate the sufferings of the poor people of the province.

The PPP chairman started his election campaign for the July 25 election from Karachi on Sunday. He has since visited Hyderabad, Thatta, Tando Jam, Hatri Bypass, Mithiani, Hala, Nawabshah and Sanghar among other districts.

After completing his tour of Sindh, the 29-year-old is expected to head to Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
