With the onset of monsoon season, a tree plantation drive kicked off on full-scale basis in Karachi on Tuesday.
Volunteers and citizens actively participated in the plantation drive as a large number of them obtained saplings in order to plant them.
The plantation drive was launched under the aegis of Green Karachi Action Forum (GKAC). Other associations and individuals collaborating with GKAC include Act Karachi Youth Association, Billion Tree Project Karachi, National Forum for Environment and Health, Sobia Mansoor, Fizzah Shakeel, Arsalan Mughal, Komail Zaidi, Nadeen Ashraf, Shahbuddin, Ambeern Jawad, Younis Siddiqui and educationist Ghalib Jalees.
The plantation drive was formally launched simultaneously at PECHS Block-6, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Shah Faisal Colony 2, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Abul Hassan Isphani Road, Federal B Area, Lyari and Orangi Town.
Experts related to forestry and horticulture, leaders, activists and volunteers were present in large number at all these chosen spots for plantation.
Initially, the campaign is being conducted to plant 1,000 plants and tree saplings at 13 spots in the city. Volunteers, activists of campaign and concerned area residents will take care of these plants in future till time of their maturity.
Plant saplings for plantation drive have been donated by Abdul Rafeeh who is custodian of Aladin Park, Karachi.
