BHC allows Bugti’s grandson, NP leader to contest elections

The Balochistan High Court (BHC) on Monday allowed Nawaz Ali Bugti, grandson of Akber Bugti, and National Party leader Nizamuddin to contest the upcoming polls, a private TV channel reported.

A division bench of the high court comprising Justice Naeem Akhtar and Justice Nazir Langove declared Ali eligible to contest provincial assembly seat PB-10 Dera Bugti. He had been disqualified by the appellate tribunal on a plea filed by former home minister Sarfaraz Bugti seeking rejection of Ali’s nomination papers on grounds that he failed to disclose his assets.

The BHC also overturned appellate tribunal’s decision and allowed Nizamuddin to contest the July 25 election.

The court reserved judgment on a petition seeking disqualification of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) provincial secretary general Sardar Yar Muhammad Rind while Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) provincial leader Haji Ali Madad Jattak was barred from running in the elections. The nomination papers of both the leaders were rejecting by both returning officers and the election tribunal. The bench also rejected a plea filed by Awami National Party (ANP) leader Zamrak Achakzai against Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) National Assembly candidate Abdul Qahar Wadan.
