ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday rejected the pleas of Balochistan Awami Party’s (BAP)’s Mir Shoaib Nosherwani and Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP)’s Amin Imrani seeking permission to contest the upcoming general election from PP-42 Kharan and PP-12 Nasirabad, respectively.

A three-member bench comprising Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar, Justice Umar Ata Bandia and Justice Ijazul Ahsan heard the pleas. At the onset of the hearing, Justice Ijazul Ahsan noted that the nomination papers of Nosherwani were rejected on the basis of a fake degree. He said Nosherwani did not challenge the decision of the disciplinary committee, which declared his degree fake.

The chief justice noted that the statement of the secrecy branch’s controller of the university was also against Nosherwani. The counsel for Nosherwani, however, contended although the nomination papers of his client were rejected on the grounds of his degree, however, in fact, the case did not pertain to a fake degree.

Meanwhile, the court also dismissed the plea of PPP’s Amin Imrani to contest the upcoming general election. The counsel for Imrani stated that his client wanted to contest the election from PB-12 Nasirabad. He requested the court to allow his client to contest the election till final decision is announced. “On what basis, we can allow you to contest the election,” the chief justice asked the counsel. He said even the review plea of Imarni did not fulfil the merit. Meanwhile, the court dismissed the plea.
