The delegation was briefed about the functioning of ITU and the various projects being undertaken by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB). The delegation also visited the Citizen Contact Centre, various laboratories in ITU and e-Khidmat Centre and appreciated the work being done.
“Pakistan was globally engaged with Nigeria, Austin and the United Arab Emirates for replicating its various automated systems while similar arrangements were underway with the Chinese and Russian governments,” PITB e-Governance Director General Sajid Latif said while briefing the delegation.
ITU Academics Director Farzana Shahid briefed that ITU was at par with other IT universities of the world and the main purpose of ITU, driven by a culture of research and entrepreneurship, was to enhance the innovation and research in the areas of science, technology and engineering.
Ambassador Sonam T Rabgye was of the opinion that Pakistan had great potential in IT and Bhutan would like to benefit from the experience and expressed interest to have their students in the ITU under the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation.
The ambassador further said that Pakistan has impressive and innovative IT projects in various sectors, which needed to be replicated. The technological interventions in the fields of agriculture, health, education, archives and law & order could help Bhutan achieve IT solutions, he added.
The delegation members included officials of the Central Monastic Body, Ministries of Home & Cultural Affairs, Foreign Affairs, Royal Bhutanese Embassy’s Counsellor Domang and spouse of Tshering Yangchen Rabgye who visited the sacred Buddhist places in Swat during their visit.
