KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Saturday summoned a report from Jail authorities over a petition seeking primary suspect former Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rao Anwar’s house as a sub-jail.

During the hearing, the SHC  expressed anger over absence of Anwar’s counsel, ordering him to be appear before the court on July 2.

The SHC while hearing a petition against declaration of Anwar’s house as a sub-jail.

During the  proceedings, High Court Judge irked over the petition remarked that  it was evident why Anwar is being given special protocol.

The Judge questioned that under which law was Anwar kept in his house instead of being in a jail.

Government’s counsel informed the court that Anwar’s life was at risk, to which the Judge questioned that the former SSP was never sent to the jail nor was any petition filed pertaining to any threats over his life.

The Judge remarked that how could Anwar’s life be at risk when he has never been jailed.

Raged over the petition, the high court Judge directed the authorities to transfer Anwar to a jail, warning that if not done so the sub-jail notification will be cancelled.

The Judge further questioned the officials if any other criminal has ever been the facilitated or given protocol like Anwar.

He added that the Naqeebullah murder case is a high profile case and it not be taken lightly.

High court Judge summoned the suspect’s counsel, warning him of issuing notice against him if he fails to appear before the court again.

The hearing was adjourned until July 2.

Naqeebullah’s family outside the high court staged a protest demanding transfer of Anwar to the central jail, while chanting slogans against the prime suspect’s VIP treatment and protocol given by the government.

Earlier former Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rao Anwar had said that he will be proven innocent in the Naqeebullah Mehsud murder case as the prosecution had no evidence against him.

Anwar and 11 of his subordinates were accused of killing Naqeebullah, a shopkeeper and an aspiring model, and three others during a fake encounter in Karachi’s Malir area earlier in the year.
