Pakistani Girls Code, the American Centre’s first-ever summer coding camp for girls, ended with a ceremony at the National Library’s Lincoln Reading Lounge, at the embassy-sponsored Lincoln Corner.

Deputy Public Affairs Officer Michelle Los Banos presented certificates to the 22 participants from Islamabad’s Federal Government Schools.

“It is vital that we educate and inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs, and innovators and increase the number of women in the field of computer science,” she said. “This summer camp is an exciting step in the right direction.”

During the week-long camp, trainers Muhammad Taimur Yousaf from Telenor Pakistan and Sehrish Fatima, a media designer, led the girls, who worked in teams.

At the end of the camp, the teams presented final projects on 3-D designing and printing, graphic design, web page development, coding, animation and electronic circuits.

Lincoln Corners provide access to current and reliable information about America through books, magazines, videos, Internet access, databases and programmes for the general public. Currently, there are 18 Lincoln Corners located in US Consular Districts throughout Islamabad, Peshawar, Karachi and Lahore.
