Baig has been appointed to the post for the next four years.
The SC issued the order on Wednesday as a three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, resumed hearing of the PEMRA chairman appointment case.
During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsel argued that the individual selected for the post did not fulfil the eligibility criteria. However, the chief justice remarked that the court did not want to impose its will in the matter since a search committee tasked to select the PEMRA chairman had already nominated Baig for the post. President Mamnoon Hussain had approved a summary for Baig’s appointment to the post late last month. Baig has been an officer of the Information Service and previously served as the Principal Information Officer.
