Hunger Strike for missing persons enters fifth day

HYDERABAD: A week long hunger strike under aegis of Voice for Missing Persons (VMP) for recovery of forcibly disappeared persons continued on 5th day Thursday at Radio Chowk in front of press club despite light rain.

In the last five days no state official from any department of the government contacted the protestors. However, the camp was visited and joined by members of the civil society and Sindhi Adabi Sangat.

The strike led by VMP convener Ms. Sorath Lohar, Sindhu Amman Chandio,Taj Joyo, Tanvir Arijo, Saleh Ariser,Ameer AzadPanhanwar of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Tehrik (JSQT) was also joined by more than 15 family members of missing persons including women.

During the strike, Sindhu Amman Chandio, Naseeullah Khoso, Bilawal Rajar fell unconscious due to weakness and fatigue. Medical help was sought from doctors but none of the protestors broke their hunger strike.

According to the protestors, their lives were not more precious than the lives of their loved ones. They stated that even though their family members had been whisked away since a year, no authority including the judiciary had given them justice. They added that the attitude of the state was causing anger and hatred to spread among Sindhi people.

The protestors made an appeal to all political parties, nationalists and human rights organizations to support them by joining their struggle and raising voice state tyranny.
