Sir: The world was rocked by the Panama leaks back in May 2016. It has been two years since then, but our political narrative still remains trapped around the leaks because of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) case against Nawaz Sharif.
Though he has been ousted from the Prime Minister’s office and banned from heading his political party, our legal system still hasn’t been able to indict Nawaz Sharif or his family members for corruption.
That these cases remain pending so close to a general election is a fiasco. Should NAB and our courts remain unable to indict Sharif, he could very well question the legitimacy of these elections once they are concluded.
In the interest of the country, the authorities must attempt to make progress on this case as fast as possible, and come to a conclusion before the elections are upon us.
