NAB yet to forward Manzoor Ahmed Qadir’s case to chairman

KARACHI: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) even after the completion of a Rs 50 billion mega corruption case against the former director general Sindh Building Control (SBCA) Manzoor Ahmed Qadir two years ago, has not yet forwarded the investigation report to the NAB Chairman, NAB officials told Daily Times.

According to NAB officials, the investigative report was to be forwarded to NAB Chairman for approval. Explaining the procedure, the NAB officials said that after the approval of Chairman NAB, a reference is sent to NAB courts for final steps and after green light from the chair, proceedings regarding arrest and initiation of the court are started.

The officials revealed that, in this case, Board’s approval for arrest of Manzoor Kaka could be possible through Interpol as he went to Canada on sensing his arrest.

Meanwhile, NAB Spokesperson Rizwan Ahmed said that Manzoor was facing more the 21 cases and they were under inquiry . According to the official, Manzoor was absconding and several notices had been served to him during his absence.

Officials said that Manzoor Ahmed Qadir’s corruption case was among one of 187 mega cases which were submitted in Supreme Court on directives under listing of land scam, abuse of official power and financial scam above Rs 5 billion.

According to inside sources, Manzoor Ahmed Qadir had accepted his all wrongdoings including financial and land scam during NAB interrogation. NAB had started interrogating him in May 2015, officials informed.

The officials said that NAB had already recorded statements and supplementary documents in which Manzoor Ahmed Qadir had admitted to corruption.

The officials also revealed that Manzoor was also involved in abuse of official powers and High rise, commercial buildings, appointment of SBCA and misuses of power Government official.

According to the sources, during his interrogation Manzoor revealed that in his tenure, he was involved in money laundering to the tune of Rs 90 billion with the kelp of Aftab Pathan and others, according to the officials.

The NAB officials revealed that he had confessed having properties and assets over $3 billion in foreign countries,

Officials revealed that during the interrogation, Manzoor had also accepted that he had continued his activities with the assistance of Gul Ahmed, his brother in Dubai.

Manzoor began his political career as activist of Peoples Students. He was appointed in SBCA in grade 17 during Benazir Bhutto 1998 rule. He has been a close friend of Asif Ali Zardari.

In Karachi, Manzoor has property worth billions of rupees in the Clifton area. He also owns a private zoo. Manzoor owns properties in United Arab Emirates (UAE), South Africa, UK, Canada and Switzerland.
