Center for Excellence in Journalism, Institute of Business Administration (IBA) held a training program for journalists on the topic of civic education, election laws and administration and the role of political parties.

“Throughout my career, I have struggled to create a sense of activism in Pakistani citizens. However I feel that the media can play a defining role when it comes to changing the way we think as a nation.” said Afia Salam, a civic activist, who was sensitizing journalists on civic education, good governance and their elements on the first day of training program..

Second day of the training was focused on media’s reporting on political parties and politics. Mr. Mazhar Laghari and Mr. Khurram Malik from the Tabeer office conducted the session on reporting politics and political parties. They focused on the need for balanced and objective reporting.

While commenting on the central role of objective reporting on political parties, Mr. Khurram said, “Media’s reporting can help avoid unnecessary adventure in politics.”

On the last day of the training program, Mr.Shabbir Ahmed, an elections expert briefed the journalists on the new Elections Act 2017. The third day of the conference was focused on media and elections administration; laws, rules and procedures.

According to the media coordinator of IBA similar trainings will also be organized in Lahore, Peshawar, Islamabad and Quetta.

Mr. Saghir Ahmed Naqash and Mr. Mushoud Ali facilitated the training on behalf of Individualland Pakistan. Individualland Pakistan, a research based consulting and advocacy firm, organized the three days training with the collaboration of Tabeer – Consolidating Democracy in Pakistan (CDIP).
