Wahdat colony police accused of filing fake cases against residents

LAHORE: Wahdat colony residents on Monday gathered to protests against SHO Furqan and TASI Rashid for allegedly harassing people and registering fake cases against them.

Protestors demanded Chief Justice of Pakistan and the newly incumbent Punjab Inspector General Police (IGP) Dr Syed Kaleem Imam to providing justice to those who were booked in fake cases, including senior journalist Naeem Gilani.

It was further said that the police put lives of citizens at stake by allegedly allowing and facilitating a contractor for construction of a building despite court’s stay order. They were holding placards in their hands inscribed with different slogans against police including “police’s bullying is not accepted”, “Say no to oppression” and “we want justice”.

Residents claimed that the said contractor was using low-quality material in construction of the building and hence, putting lives of people in danger. Despite the stay order, the contractor resumed with the construction of the building which forced the residents to call the police for help.

Surprisingly, instead of solving the matter, police upon arrival detained the complainant by claiming that he had made a fake call, while, the reality was totally opposite contrary to police claim, the residents said. They further said that police also threatened senior citizens of consequences for making a “false claim against a local resident of area under the section 107/151”.

On Sunday, the police repeated the incident and took into custody the same person by once again claiming that he had made a fake call on police helpline 15.

When Wahdat colony SHO Furqan was contacted, he said that they registered a genuine case. However, upon a query, he said that Naeem Gilani did not give any fake call neither did the police claim so, backtracking from his earlier statement.
