COAS calls on caretaker PM

ISLAMABAD: Cheif of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Monday called on Caretaker Prime Minister Justice (retd) Nasirul Mulk at Prime Minister Office.

The army chief and the interim prime minister discussed matters pretaining to the conduct of general elections 2018, said a PM House spokesperson.

Pakistan’s internal security situation was discussed in the meeting.

It was the second meeting between General Bajwa and PM Nasirul Mulk since the later took oath as Pakistan’s seventh caretake prime minister.

Ministry of Defence has agreed to provide 350,000 army troops to perform election duty as requested by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

However, some defence experts are of view that It’s nearly impossible to spare 350000 personnel for elections.

For the 2013 general elections, around 70,000 troops were deployed across the country to perform security duties.
