Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Shehbaz Sharif said on Sunday that Pakistan would suffer irreparable damage if transparency was not ensured in the upcoming general elections.

Former Punjab chief minister made these remarks during a meeting of the PML-N’s lawyers’ forum in Lahore.

The meeting was also attended by PML-N leaders Naseer Bhatta and Syed Mushahid Hussain.

“The nation will reject the politics of chaos in favour of a politics of performance,” the former Punjab chief minister said, adding, “there is our performance on one hand and on the other, there is nothing but false promises.” Sharif shared with the gathering that Pakistan was facing two major problems during the last general election: load-shedding and terrorism. “The PML-N government has worked towards eliminating both the menaces,” he said. On Saturday, the PML-N had announced names of several of its candidates for national and provincial assembly seats from the Punjab. PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif was reported to be contesting the polls from NA-132 Lahore and NA-192 Dera Ghazi Khan, besides three provincial assembly seats.

Hamza Shehbaz, a son of the PML-N president, will contest the polls from NA-124 and Maryam Nawaz, his niece, from NA-125. Former minister of railways Khawaja Saad Rafique will face off PTI chairman Imran Khan in NA-131. The PML-N has fielded Ayaz Sadiq against PTI’s Ejaz Ahmad Chaudhry in NA-133 Lahore.

The party has fielded Ahsan Iqbal from his traditional Narowal seat NA-78, Khawaja Asif from his hometown seat in Sialkot NA-73, Rana Sanaullah and Abid Sher Ali from NA-106 and NA-108, respectively, in Faisalabad.
