An independent candidate from Muzaffargarh has declared assets worth over Rs400 billion, mostly comprising land he owns in Muzaffargarh city and its adjoining areas.

Mohammad Hussain Sheikh, who is contesting the election from NA-182 and PP-270 in Muzaffargarh, told the media on Saturday that he owned land comprising almost 40 per cent of Muzaffargarh city as well as the Lang Malana, Taliri, Chak Taliri and Latkaran areas. Further, he claimed that the land had previously been disputed, but a recent Supreme Court verdict, announced by the bench comprising Chief Justice Saqib Nisar, Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Umar Atta Bandial, paved the way for transfer of land’s ownership in his name.

Based on the reports carried by the media over assets and liabilities of candidates, Sheikh appears to be the richest contender for elected office so far. Assets declared by all major politicians have been reported in the media already, while the ECP has yet to release the details to the public.
