Lok Virsa to hold summer camp for children from July 3

The National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa) has announced to organize ‘Children Summer Camp in Traditional Skills’ including truck art, papier mache and pottery making from July 3-31 at Lok Virsa Heritage Museum in Shakarparian, Islamabad.

Children of age group 6-14 years can apply for enrollment in the summer camp. The activity aims at promoting traditional culture and inculcating awareness among the younger generation about the indigenous craft heritage of Pakistan.

Timings of the summer camp will be from 10 am to 1 pm four days a week (Tuesday to Friday). There will be three periods of classes during the summer camp. The first period will focus on history about the relevant craft. The children will do practical work under master trainers/artisans in the second period. The third period will focus on storytelling, folk music, folk games, drawings, etc.

During the summer camp, the participating children will also be provided an opportunity to visit local museums and get acquainted with the cultural heritage of Pakistan.

Master artisans in the respective craft fields will conduct the training classes in the summer camp. A non-refundable registration fee of Rs 3,000 per child will be charged in advance.

The summer camp will culminate with a colourful closing ceremony featuring live performances by child folk artists and folk performers. Certificates will also be awarded to the participating children in this ceremony. Lok Virsa will also provide raw materials for craft training classes and lunch for the children.
