Roadside eateries of Karachi not to be missed

Author: Alina Zamir

Lahore is known for the food that it serves. It is a city where you get food at any possible time; however, Karachi offers you some roadside eateries, which are limited to the city itself.

Let’s give you a glimpse of some eateries of Karachi.

Bun Kabab

Karachi’s special ‘Burns Road Bun Kabab’ is famous all over the country. It is the ultimate road-side bun kabab that all of us crave for. Spicy hari chutni is served along with it, like a dip sauce. This dip serves the very purpose of adding that extra flavour to your meal!

Paratha Roll

You get to eat paratha rolls everywhere, now, in Pakistan. But the real paratha roll deal, served to you in Karachi, goes by the name of ‘Asli Karachi Paratha Roll’, and is definitely worth giving a try.

Katakat

Katakat is a dish made by slicing different organs and then assembling them together with the help of knives. A musical sound, ‘Ka-ta-kat’, is created on the tawa while your food is being prepared. The food is associated with this sound, and is named after it. Katakat is referred to as ‘Takatak’ in Lahore and other parts of Pakistan.

If you happen to talk to a Karachite, they won’t take a second, and will refer you to ‘Noorani Kebab House’.

Kachori

Kachoris that are served in Karachi are made on theelas. They are filled with a mixture of different pulses, and are deep-fried. Kachori is served with aloo ki tarkari and spicy aachar. You can find the most famous ones at I.I.Chundrigar Road.

Chai-Paratha

As simple it as may sound, chai-paratha is the ultimate breakfast kick-start your day. It is made at every other chai corner in Karachi, and is served with karak chai. Chai-paratha is the king of roadside eateries.

Ice Gola

Ice gola is yet another food item which is available in Karachi, and loved by people all over the country. It is a cup of shaved ice, dripped in flavoured juices; however, if you are lucky enough, you will also get to feed your taste buds with chocolate sauce, drizzled on top of the flavoured ice. Even though ice gola is available all over the country, ‘Dhoraji’ in Karachi is, still, famous for its ice golas.
