Kashmiri journalist, Shujaat Bukhari, was shot dead by gunmen in Indian Occupied Kashmir on Thursday.
Bukhari was a leading Indian journalist and the founding editor of Rising Kashmir, a Srinagar based newspaper.
Journalists and prominent personalities from across Pakistan, India and beyond have condemned the attack and called for probe into the matter.
Daily Times Editor Raza Rumi said: “It is a saddening week for us since a friend and colleague was so brutally murdered. Shujaat was always objective and independent and was never afraid to speak his mind. His murder has left us distraught because it is not about him, or Pakistan and India, it is about the entire region and if we don’t have free media, this region is not going to progress.”
Veteran journalist Imtiaz Alam said: “Shujaat was a role model for journalists in Kashmir. His problem was that he would always speak the truth.”
