PFA seals two food points over poor hygiene conditions

Author: Staff Report

LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Thursday sealed two food businesses over failure to maintain a hygienic working environment and providing substandard food during a crackdown held in the provincial metropolis. The food safety teams also imposed fine totalling Rs 99,000 on nine food points and served notices for improvement to 61 food joints. A PFA official said that a team of theirs sealed Karachi Restaurant & Biryani Centre, located at Barket Market, owing to an abundance of insects, usage of blue drums for water storage, improper cleanliness arrangements and for using rancid oil and substandard ingredients. Apart from that, workers of the food outlet did not have medical certificates.

Other than this, Shimla Sweets & Bakers was resealed for opening up their shop without following the law, as their food had the presence of insects and expired cola drinks and poor hygiene conditions was the usual norm of the bakery. The PFA official further said that his team was fully committed to ensure hygienic food in Punjab as per “Healthy Punjab” mission under its slogan “From Farm to Fork”.
