KARACHI: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar on Wednesday questioned if Sindh had done anything at all in adherence to the law.
During hearing of a suo moto notice case at Supreme Court’s (SC) Karachi Registry, CJP Nisar grilled provincial advocate general, questioning if anything is done right in Sindh.
Earlier SC had taken a suo moto notice over the use of luxury vehicles by the federal and provincial ministers beyond their entitlement.
Sindh Advocate General Barrister Zameer Hussain Ghumro, during the hearing informed the court that 149 luxury vehicles in use of officers had been recovered from the Sindh government.
CJP, to this questioned if there was a proper framework regarding the use of these luxury cars in future.
He further questioned, where the recovered cars had been parked, to which Ghumro responded that “there is a central pool of cars and a framework had been prepared regarding the use of the recovered vehicles.”
As per an issued notification the vehicles have been permitted for the use of field work and special assignments at a cost of Rs 25000 per day.
Nisar irked by the AG’s response remarked that the Sindh government will now be carrying out rent a car business based on ill-intentions and nothing else.
He added that the notification/ framework allowed the ministers to use the vehicles all day long.
CJP Nisar, declared the notification null and void, adjourning the hearing of the case until June 28.
