New IG promises to take action against the ‘black sheep’ in police

Sindh Police Inspector General (IG) Amjad Javed Saleemi vowed, on Tuesday, to take strict action against “the black sheep” in the police department.

“I will continue to work honestly and will not spare the corrupt officers working in the police department,” said the IG while talking to a group of journalists after his visit to the Mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam.

He informed the media that all the corrupt police officers would be suspended and sentenced. He added that wall chalking was a crime and progress was being made in the elimination of street crime from the metropolis.

On Friday, IGP Sindh Javed Saleemi had revealed that there were people within the police department who were involved in criminal activities and protection of criminal elements for their ulterior motives.

Addressing a meeting, the new provincial police chief said that the department would fail if it supports criminal activities and shelters criminal elements. He added that the police needed to rid itself of the people involved in criminal activities.

“Sindh Police is a poorly-coordinated department, it seems rather than policing the department is doing something else,” he said.

“I have been nominated to ensure transparent polls. At any cost, we have to implement the directives of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) by ensuring free and fair elections. I have one simple principle, officers who can deliver as per expectations will remain in my team and those who can’t, I will dismiss them myself,” Javed Saleemi added.
