Social worker Asiya Akbar shot dead in DG Khan

DERA GHAZI KHAN: A social activist Asiya Akber was shot dead on Tuesday by her younger sister’s father-in-law near Foja Basti area of Dera Ghazi Khan District.

According to police sources, Asiya was on her way to Khanpur when two armed men intercepted her, forced her out of the car and opened fire at her.

Reportedly, she died on the spot.

The police officials further revealed that father-in-law of Asiya’s younger sister namely Aqsa suspected that the social activist had fuelled her with hostility towards his family.

After 15 days of Aqsa’s marriage, Asiya brought her back to DG Khan from Khanpur where she had moved after her marriage.

“Aqsa’s father-in-law shot Asiya over suspicions and managed to flee from the scene,” the officials added. Moreover, officials pointed out that Asiya had filed a case alleging that her sister had been missing.

Meanwhile, the police officers have started further investigation into the incident while conducting raids to arrest the accused.
