They were handed to Pakistani authorities in the presence of officials from the Pakistan High Commission.
Among them was Nasreen Akhtar, who was awarded 10-year-and-six-month imprisonment and a hefty fine in India. Pakistan’s High Commission paid the fine six months ago. Another prisoner, Haroon Ali, remained incarcerated at a juvenile home after he reportedly crossed the border mistakenly while chasing his differently-abled brother. His elder brother returned to Pakistan in 2017.
Pakistani high commission played a crucial role in ensuring repatriation of the six Pakistanis. At least 52 Pakistanis who have completed their prison sentences in India are awaiting repatriation. These include 37 fishermen.
