Khurho asks court to bring Musharraf back through Interpol

The Supreme Court of Pakistan should direct the authorities concerned to issue red warrants for the arrest of former dictator Pervaiz Musharraf, Pakistan peoples Party (PPP) Sindh chapter president Nisar Ahmed Khuhro demanded on Friday.

He was speaking to the media at his residence.

The former food minister in Sindh said Musharraf proved to be a coward since he did not return to the country despite the apex court’s assurance that he won’t be arrested on arrival. He said the court should now bring him back through the Interpol so that he could face charges against him.

Referring to Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan’s recent visit to Saudi Arabia for umrah, Khuhro said the cricketer-turned-politician facilitated his friend Zulfiqar Bukhari, wanted by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), in getting his name out of the Exit Control List (ECL). He said individuals were known by the company they kept, and asked if Khan would keep assisting criminals flee Pakistan like he did in his friend’s case?

The veteran politician also discussed the appointments made by the caretaker administrations, criticising the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for letting them do so. He said the act reeked of malafide intentions, and demanded that the caretaker governments should not have the right to make new appointments. “The ECP has put a big question mark on credibility of the upcoming general election in the country by first banning the outgoing elected governments from making new appointments, and then permitting caretaker governments to make fresh appointments,” he said.

Khuhro claimed that the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) leaders realised that they would face a miserable defeat in the upcoming election that was why they were banking their hopes on the postponement of elections. “We salute the masses who have dismissed the GDA and given its leader the message that they will not support them in the elections,” Khuhro said, while adding that the alliance was led by those who were not comfortable with the strengthening of democracy in the country.
