Man dies in police custody

LARKANA: A rickshaw driver, identified as Mukhtiar Abbasi died during police custody in Waleed Police Station.

According to Akhtiar Abbasi, elder brother of deceased, police arrested his brother along with three others from Yar Muhammad Colony and at midnight he received a call that his brother has died.

He said Irshad Shaikh, Zahid Kalhoro and another of three arrested persons had been set free on alleged money-demand by police.

He said Waleed police informed him that his brother had been shifted to casualty of Chandka Medical College Hospital. On visiting hospital, severe torture marks over body of his brother were found that showed he died after bodily torture.

He alleged earlier police had demanded him Rs 5,000 for his brother’s release but he could not pay the amount being poor.

The heirs took the body and staged protest sit-in in front of SSP Roundabout. They demanded justice and registration of FIR against the involved cops including SHO Altaf Kandhro.
