The petition submitted against Zardari’s papers for a National Assembly seat in Nawabshah maintained that he had yet to pay taxes on 1,500 acres of agricultural land purchased in Sanghar as well as on canal water used to irrigate his fields.
Accepting the petition, the returning officer sent a notice to Zardari and fixed the matter for hearing on June 18.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan’s nomination papers submitted for NA-131 Lahore and NA-243 Karachi have also been challenged.
The petition, a member of former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry’s Justice and Democratic Party, has mentioned Khan’s alleged extramarital affair with US citizen Sita White.
A returning officer has summoned the PTI chairman in person on June 18. The PTI chairman has submitted nominations from NA constituencies in Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, and Mianwali.
