Army will be deployed to ensure security during elections: ECP

ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday announced that army personnel will be deployed on polling stations to ensure security on the Election Day.

Earlier, a ECP commissioner Sardar Muhamamd Raza Khan chaired a session  pertaining to reviewing security details for the upcoming elections.

In the aftermath of the session, it was established that foolproof security would be provided at the time of printing of ballot papers, for which army will be deployed at Security Printing Press from June 27 to July 25.

Director General (DG) ECP’s media cell while talking to the media said that closed-circuit television cameras would be installed at 20,000 sensitive polling stations across Pakistan.

According to sources, the most sensitive polling stations will have 3 to 4 CCTV cameras. Adding that the elections will be conducted in coordination with National Counter Terrorism Authority so that unwanted incidents can be avoided.

ECP official said that security will be provided to politicians which is to be arranged by provincial interim set ups.

Earlier on June 8, ECP had issued a revised schedule extending the date for submission of nomination papers till June 11 from 8. The final list of candidates will be issued on June 28 and elections will be held on July 25.
