A Pakistani woman died on Wednesday after falling off an ambulift at Najaf International Airport, said a statement by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).
Relatives of the deceased woman climbed on the ambulift which lead to the incident, said Najaf Airport Authority.
The PIA statement added that the elderly woman, aged between 93 and 94 years old, was travelling on PK220. She was shifted to a local hospital after the incident but succumbed to her injuries.
Nisar Fatima was buried in a cemetery in Najaf in accordance with the will of her relatives, said the spokesperson for the national carrier.
PIA CEO Musharraf Rasool Cyan extended his condolences to the family of the woman and ordered an investigation into the incident. Cyan had also asked the airport manager in Najaf to issue a notice to the ground handling staff for their “negligence”.
“The ground handling at Najaf is being handled by the Najaf Airport Authority. The PIA issued a notice to the Najaf Airport Authority and asked for a detailed report of the sad incident immediately,” added the PIA statement.
