SHIKARPUR: A 20-year-old woman and her alleged paramour were shot dead on Wednesday for having an ‘illicit’ relationship in Abdul Samad Jatoi Village near Katcha area of Madeji, a town in Garhi Yasin sub-district of Shikarpur district in Sindh.

According to the Jamalpur Police Station House Officer (SHO) Saleem Raza Abro, the suspect Ameer Bakhsh Jatoi killed his relative Samina, daughter of Abdul Samad, and 40-year-old Ayaz Ahmed, a resident of Mirzapur village, and managed to flee from the scene.

Meanwhile, the police rushed at the spot and transported the bodies to Madeji Taluka Hospital. Later, the bodies were handed over to their heirs after conducting autopsy. Many women have been butchered for ‘honour’ in many districts of Sindh including Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Kandhkot, Ghotki, Larkana, Sukkur and Khairpur. ‘Rule of law’ has become meaningless as far as safeguard and protection of women is concerned.

Human rights activists including Zahid Bhanbhro, Mian Zafar Alvi and others have urged the government to implement and enforce its writ, and devise a plan for educating the masses that would counter such incidents. Meanwhile, the Jamalpur police have lodged first information report (FIR) against Ameer Bakhsh Jatoi and his alleged accomplices.
