LARKANA: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Nisar Ahmed Khuhro on Wednesday said that Sindh has been deprived of its due water share despite the announcement by Indus River System Authority (IRSA) to increase the share by 25,000 cusecs.

While addressing an iftar dinner arranged by PPP office bearers of Union Councils (UC-2) and UC-4 Suhaib Narejo and Kashif Umrani, respectively, Khuhro said that according to IRSA, Sindh should now be supplied with 135,000 cusecs of water.

Amid water scarcity, Khuhro demanded the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar to take suo motu notice over the non-implementation of Water Accord of 1991 and heavy losses of water from Taunsa barrage.

PPP Sindh Chief said that the water supply has been limited to 90,000 cusecs from Taunsa to Gudu barrage while millions of acres of fertile land of Sindh have been eroded by water-logging and salinity, particularly in Badin and Thatta.

He denounced creation of new provinces and construction of Kalabagh dam, and termed it ‘an attack on Sindh’ that would not achieve its objectives.

“PPP would strive and fight against enemies of Sindh. Neither new provinces would be allowed nor construction of Kalabagh dam,” Khuhro said while criticising rival forces to stop hurting the sentiments of people of Sindh.

Moreover, he claimed that Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has no other option to get votes in Karachi except that they are misleading people by presenting notion about new provinces.

Regarding Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), Khuhro vowed that PPP would defeat GDA from every constituency in between Kashmore and Karachi in the upcoming general election 2018.

“PPP rejects the hike in petroleum prices, and urges the caretaker government to withdraw the decision immediately,” he added while claiming that the new petroleum prices would have devastating consequences for the poor masses.

Importantly, he demanded full-proof security arrangements for Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and said that Benazir Bhutto was killed by ‘terrorists’ due to loopholes left in security arrangements.

“PPP has been constantly confronting terrorism and extremism,” he said.
