The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday expressed dissatisfaction over a report of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on foreign bank accounts of Pakistanis and assets accumulated abroad

A three-member top court bench comprising Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Justice Umar Bandiyal and Justice Ejaz-ul-Ahsan was hearing the suo motu case pertaining to foreign bank accounts of Pakistani and assets accumulated abroad.

SBP governor, finance secretary and the Federal Board of Revenue chairman appeared before the court.

As the hearing went underway, the top judge asked how much money had gone out of the country illegally. To which, the central bank governor said it was the duty of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to investigate the matter. The CJP remarked that services of think thank and the platform of the Law and Justice Commission could be utilised for putting the country’s economy on track. The top court had earlier sought from the central bank the details of all transactions above $50,000.
