ISLAMABAD: Former president Asif Ali Zardari has felicitated PPP candidates for winning recently held by-polls in PS-114, Karachi, and Gilgit Baltistan Legislative Assembly-4.

PPP’s Saeed Ghani and Javed Hussain had won by-polls in their respective constituencies in Karachi and in Hunza-Nagar on Sunday.

“The result of by-elections in Karachi and in GB should open the eyes of those who had written off the PPP,” Zardari said in a statement issued on Monday. “The result demonstrates that the voters trust the PPP to bring about change in their lives for the better,” he said.

The former president also felicitated the party cadre and workers in Karachi and GB for their hard work in reaching out to voters during the by-poll campaign. “Homework and team work has led to our victories,” he said. Zardari urged party workers to demonstrate the same level of unity to clinch electoral victories in coming months.

“Today the representatives of the workers and the labourers have triumphed over those exploiting the working people,” Zardari said, adding that the PPP had always stood with the oppressed against those oppressing them. He said his party would continue its struggle for the rights of the marginalised and the deprived.
