RAWALPINDI: The Government has given approval to install 27 new water filtration plants worth Rs50 million in Cantonment and other areas of Rawalpindi.
The government has also released the funds to district administration for installing the water filtration plants, while the tender is likely to be advertised next week. According to sources, the filtration plants will be installed in NA-54, NA-55 and 56 on the directions of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, while the Federal government has also given approval of the special grant worth Rs 50 million.
An official on condition of anonymity informed that at least 13 filtration plants would be installed in wards of Chakala, Cantonment Board and other areas of Rawalpindi. Moreover, 14 new filtration plants would be constructed.
Residential units: Mayor Rawalpindi SardarNaseem Khan has directed to launch drive against use of residential units for commercial purposes in the city.
In a statement, he said that strict action will be taken against those who are found responsible for running businesses in the residential units. Mayor Rawalpindi directed the corporation officers to seal all those houses which are used for commercial purposes. He further added that a case will be also registered in the relevant police station against the responsible for breaching law. He vowed that no one would be allowed to use residential areas for commercial activities.
Poor practices: Directorate of Health Services (DHS) of Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) continues its campaign against food handlers engaged in poor food practices.
On the directions of Mayor of Islamabad and Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA), Sheikh Anser Aziz, especially constituted teams of DHS of the Authority are conducting raids across the federal capital to ensure provision of quality edible items as per required health standards.
During the last week, these teams have challaned 14 people and issued 15 notices to the violators of hygiene sections of PPF Ordinance 1960. Moreover, 30 liters Soft drinks unhygienic and substandard confiscated and also destroyed there and then while 22 food samples from different food outlets have also been collected and sent to laboratory for further for proper investigation.
Chairman CDA, Sheikh Anser Aziz has directed the DHS to continue operation against sub-standard and adulterated food sellers.
