Sir: There is no denying the fact that water is a prerequisite basic human right. Moreover, without it, survival is improbable.
Unfortunately, Pakistan, despite being rich in resources is facing a serious water shortage since the past several decades. This is alarming because we are an agricultural country.
If climate change worsens then we can’t imagine what will happen to the people of the country, especially those relying on agriculture to earn a living.
Pakistan is the 10th worst country when it comes to access to water, which is truly disappointing.
It was estimated that about 200,000 children die every year from diarrhoea alone, which is caused by unsafe water.
Sadly, 89 percent of Pakistan’s population is forced to drink contaminated water. The government must immediately deal with this threatening issue. There is a dire need for urgent policies in order to tackle the water crisis.
