LAHORE: Star all-rounder Shahid Afridi will not play in the highly anticipated Pakistan Super League (PSL) final on Sunday (today) due to a hand injury. Afridi, whose team Peshawar Zalmi will face Quetta Gladiators in the final here a Gaddafi Stadium, took to social media on Saturday to announce that he would not be able to play the PSL final owing to his injury. Afridi hurt his right hand when he was fielding during the second innings of Friday’s knockout match against Karachi Kings. He received 12 stitches on his hand after the injury.
In a video message, the 37-year-old confirmed his withdrawal from the final match, saying doctors had advised him to rest for 10 days. The all-rounder said the PSL was a challenge for him as he had not performed well during the T20 World Cup last year. “I wish I could play the PSL final in Lahore, but sorry, I am unable to,” he said. “I was keen to play among my own people and in my homeland but some matters are beyond our control,” he concluded.
