SALU inaugurates Rs 1.5 billion water supply scheme

KHAIRPUR: The Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) on Tuesday conducted an inauguration ceremony of a water supply scheme worth Rs 1.5 billion funded by the district administration of Khairpur.

The SALU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Parveen Shah addressed the participants on the occasion and claimed that problem of water shortage that irked the people of region since four decades has been resolved. He lauded the joint efforts of former chief minister of Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Dr Syeda Nafisa Shah.

“Since the establishment of the university campus, the students and faculty members had faced severe issues due to acute drinking water shortage,” he remarked while expressing his gratitude to the district administration for provision of the scheme.

The SALU Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Yousuf Khushk, Faculty of Physical Sciences Dean Prof Dr Mumtaz Hussain Mahar, Faculty of Management Sciences Dean Prof Dr Syed Noor Shah Bukhari, Faculty of Social Sciences Dean Prof Dr Imdad Hussain Sahito, Faculty of Natural Sciences Dean Prof Dr Mir Munsif Ali Talpur, Registrar Prof Dr Muhammad Hassan Khaskheli, Prof Dr Ikhtiar Ali Ghumro, Prof Dr Ghulam Mohiuddin, Prof Dr Taj Muhammad Lashari and notables were also present during the ceremony.

Meanwhile, representatives of Shah Abdul Latif University Teacher Association (SALUTA), Officer Welfare Association (OWA) and Employees Welfare Association (EWA) also appreciated Dr Parveen for his efforts to resolve the issue.

Police arrest 24 suspects

The Khairpur police on Tuesday launched a crackdown against criminals ahead of Yaum-e-Ali and arrested 24 suspected criminals and four proclaimed offenders.

Reportedly, the police pickets have been established at many sensitive locations in the district and security forces have been appointed to patrol in eight sub-districts of Khairpur. The police officers conducted raids at Kachehry road, Nau Goth, Mall road, Civic Centre, Panj Gola Chowk, CID mor, Khakhi Shah Bridge and other suspected hideouts.

Meanwhile, the Khairpur SSP Shabir Sethar claimed to maintain law and order situation in the district and vowed to continue the operation against criminals to ensure security for the general public.

ADC distributes Eidi among children of Sweet Home

The Khairpur Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Riaz Hussain Wasan on Tuesday distributed Eidi among children who live at Sweet Home ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr. Meanwhile, the children were happy to receive the gifts. The Voice of Khairpur members including Advocate Ali Ahmed Memon, Advocate Muhammad Raza Soomro, Hanif Abbasi, Mukhtiar Ahmed Abro and a large number of people were also present on the occasion.
