BAHAWALPUR: As many as 36 persons of age between 18-35 years committed suicide in Bahawalpur during the last two months.

According to Bahawal Victoria Hospital sources, around 137 people of 172, who were brought to hospital after attempting to commit suicide, had swallowed poisonous pills. They said that 36 people ended their lives owing to domestic problems, forced marriages or social inequalities. In most of the suicide cases involving women, the heirs of the deceased tried to conceal the fact, terming the suicide an accidental death in an attempt to save the family’s ‘honour’ and avert police interrogation.
