CJP summons hearing on water crisis

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Monday took notice of the acute shortage of water in the country. The CJP fixed the matter in the court with regards to the water shortage in Islamabad on June 7, and subsequently at respective branch registries of the apex court in Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta.

Notices were issued to the Attorney General of Pakistan, the Advocate General, the CADD secretary, the mayor of the metropolitan corporation, the chief commissioner, and the CDA chairman.

Separately, CJP Nisar also took notice of a series of forest fire incidents in Margalla Hills that pose serious threats to the environment of the area.

The CJP issued notices to the Attorney General for Pakistan and secretaries of the environment, the Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD), and the mayor of the metropolitan corporation of Islamabad, the chief commissioner and the chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA). June 7 was fixed as the date of hearing.

Spread over 12,605 hectares, the Margalla Hills National Park sees scores of fires every year, which damage the forest and add to air pollution.
