12 injured as vehicle plunges into ravine

DIR: At least 12 passengers among them women and children were injured when a double-cabin Dutson fell into a deep ravine in Seratai locality in Upper Dir district on Sunday, locals and hospital sources said.

The vehicle passengers was going to Dir from Doon as it reached Seratai the driver lost control over the steering and it fell into the ravine. As a result 12 passengers among them children, women and men were injured.

Local residents started the rescue work and shifted the injured persons to the district headquarters hospital in Dir.

Dr Muhammad Zamin said that they had received a total of 12 injured persons and provided them treatment however three of the critically injured were referred to Timergara.

“The critical injured have to shift to Timergara because of non availability of facilities like MRI and others in the DHQ Dir,” sources in the DHQ hospital Dir said.

The hospital sources said that the three critically injured received injuries on the head and a few of them had got broken bones. The injured were identified as Mehvish, Baroon, Iqbal, Rozmeena, Khair Bibi, Muzzaffar Khan, Gojar Khan, Bacha Hina, Farida and others.

Relatives and people of the Upper Dir complained about the lack of basic facilities in the DHQ hospital Dir. The relatives alleged that their patients had not got serious kind of injuries for which they had to refer to the Timergara hospital.

They said that the Timergara hospital was also a DHQ and as it had facilities and doctors so patients were referred to it. So why the DHQ hospital Dir didn’t have facilities like the Timergara hospital , they questioned.

People said that the elected representatives from the district were not giving importance to solve the problems of the people of the district.

People demanded of the elected representatives and the provincial government to provide them basic facilities as well deploy specialist doctors in the DHQ hospital Dir to provide health facilities to the district people in times of need.
