Despite promises, govt fails to provide uninterrupted gas, electricity and water to citizens

LAHORE: Despite tall claims of provision of all facilities to citizens during Ramazan, especially during sehri and iftar hours, all concerned departments failed to provide facilities as citizens are still facing severe shortage of gas, water and electricity in the provincial metropolis, Daily Times has observed.

This scribe visited a few areas of the city and contacted around 10-15 people asking about the condition of gas, water and electricity who are living in different posh and suburban areas of the city. Approximately all of them did not give a positive response and held Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s government responsible for this.

Extensive load shedding, low pressure of gas and unavailability of water has been observed in Samanabad, Icchra, Wahdat Colony, Chuburji, Gawal Mandi, Yatim Khana, Gulberg, Islamia Park, Iqbal Town, Wahga Town, Nathoki, Taki Pur, Multan Road, Chungi Amar Sadhu and several other areas of the metropolis.

Muhammad Sharafat, a resident of Lahore while talking exclusively to Daily Times said that acute water shortage is existing for the last several years but government has not paid any heed to the issue.

“We have brought this issue to the notice of the respective area’s incharge but desired results are zero,” he said.

He further said that when they protested and held strikes against the menace, they were told that until the Orange Line Metro Train Project is completed, nothing substantial can be done to meet their issues.

He informed that shortage of water is constantly being faced from the residences of Fleming Road, Lakshmi Chauk, Gawal Mandi, Qila Lakshaman Singh, Nicholson Road, Abbot Road and Montgomery Road.

Another affectee, a resident of New Muslim Town – Maida Khan also while talking to Daily Times said that she is facing the unavailability of gas supply especially at iftar time for last couple of weeks. She further said that she has been frustrated and is not being able to pay proper attention to her annual examination’s preparations owing to the eight-10 hours of load shedding, however, which increases during tarawih prayers.

Sana Khushi – a resident of Wahga Town said that they were facing a shortage of gas and electricity even before Ramazan. Shortage of low pressure gas during sehri and iftar hours is irking the citizens, making it impossible for people to run their kitchens effectively.
