LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Saturday expressed resentment after learning about the placement of former Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s photo at the newly-established Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI).
During the hearing at the Supreme Court (SC) Lahore registry, the CJP asked PKLI chairman Dr Saeed Akhtar if he was paying money to appear on a TV programme. The CJP also inquired the chairman about his and his wife’s salary over which, he was informed that Akhtar was drawing Rs1.2 million and his wife Rs 800,000.
The top judge reprimanded the PKLI chairman, saying,”You have placed Shehbaz Sharif’s picture instead of that of the founders of Pakistan.” CJP Nisar also warned Dr Akhtar to get ready to be held for accountable for expenses amounting to Rs20 billion. “We will do a forensic audit of this hospital,” he continued.
Subsequently, the court sought board of directors’ meeting minutes and a written reply from Dr Akhtar until Sunday (today).
