LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly Tuesday passed a resolution congratulating the nation on holding of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) final in Pakistan successfully.

The resolution, filed by Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, appreciated the role of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and law enforcement agencies in this regard.

However, opposition benches strongly opposed the resolution and chanted slogans against the prime minister.

The Punjab Assembly’s session was started one-and-half-hour late to its scheduled time at 10am with Speaker Rana Iqbal in the chair. The House adopted the question hour session regarding the Schools Education Department. Parliamentary Secretary Joyce Rofin Julius answered to the queries.

Another resolution was filed by the law minister to condemn the recent spate of terrorism in the country which was passed unanimously.

The resolution mentioned several terror attacks, including Charing Cross suicide attack in Lahore, suicide attack in Sehwan Sharif and terrorist attack near Pak-Afghan border in Mehmand Agency.

The resolution fully supported Operation Radd-ul-Fassad and paid tribute to security forces and those who sacrificed their lives for the motherland.

However, opposition members, including Shoab Sadiqui. Arif Abasi, and Dr Waseem Akhtar, were of the view that the slogans of ‘Go Nawaz Go’ reportedly raised during the PSL match were a source of embarrassment for the nation.

Interestingly, Speaker Rana Iqbal once again adjourned the session over lack of quorum pointed out by opposition member Ahsan Riaz Fatiana just before adopting the non-government member business on the agenda.

Two important private members bills regarding amendments to the Child Marriage Restraints Act and the Punjab Private Educational Institutions (Promotion and Regulation) Act could not entertained due to lack of quorum.

The session was adjourned till today (Wednesday).
