LAHORE: Kamran Lashari group secured its win in the Lahore Gymkhana Election 2017 with more than 90 percent of the vote count. As per the initial results, Kamran Lashari group’s Samiur Rahman, Shaukat Javed, Ahsan Saeed and Zubair won, while Mian Misbahur Rehman group’s Pervaiz Pandar also won.
Voter turnout remained around 60 percent, while around 5,300 permanent members of the Lahore Gymkhana Club were eligible to vote and elect a 12-member executive committee of the management. Three panels – Kamran Lashari group, Mian Misbahur Rehman group and the Independent grousp – were contesting the election. The Independent group, led by Mian Waqarud Din, consisted of Mian Samiuddin, Javed Nasrullah and Ihsan Qadir.
Many members of the club had requested the Kamran Lashari panel, which is currently being headed by former Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairman Salman Siddique, not to contest the election in the wake of corruption charges that former bureaucrat Kamran Lashari is facing in the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). Moreover, there are also many cases filed in the NAB against Salman Siddique over alleged corruption. However, the vote count was reflecting a different picture.
