Four more children die in measles outbreak

KHAIRPUR: Four more children died on Thursday due to an outbreak of highly contagious measles in Ubaro, a town in Ghotki District and Faiz Gunj, a taluka of Khairpur district.

Reportedly, the virus has spread across Khairpur, Sukkur, Ghotki, Naushahro Feroze districts. Many children have died while hundreds are suffering from the deadly virus. Three children namely two-year-old Muhammad Yamin, one-year-old Ahsan Ahmed and three-year-old Ghulam Yamin died in RB Malik village while eight-year-old Suriya died in Rasool Bux village.

Meanwhile, the villagers appealed high authorities to send a team of doctors to the affected villages for immediate treatment.

Mother dies, son injured in accident

A women was killed while her son sustained severe injuries on Thursday in a road mishap near Hingorja, a city in the district of Khairpur. Reportedly, a tractor-trolley rammed into a motorcycle at national highway road. Resultantly, a women identified as Ameeran Saheto succumbed to her injuries while her son namely Saeed Ahmed received critical wounds. The area police shifted both of them to the Hingorja Hospital and arrested trolley driver.

Meanwhile, further investigation is underway.

SSP orders FIR against five cops in murder case

The Khairpur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shabir Sethar on Thursday issued directives to lodge a first information report (FIR) against five police officers over their alleged involvement in a murder case. According to a report, a dead body of a labourer namely Ramzan Pathan was recovered from a place near Khariri taluka in the Thari Mirwah city of Mirwah subdivision. The body was shifted to the Khariri police station. Meanwhile, relatives of the deceased arrived and strongly protested against his murder. They revealed that Ramzan used to work at a brick kiln. They alleged that ASI Ali Bux Khaskheli, along with other officers, subjected the deceased to third degree torture and threw his body in jungle.

While protesting, they demanded high authorities to file an FIR against the suspected officers. As a response, the SSP Sethar took notice, suspended the suspected officers and ordered to lodge FIR for investigation into the matter.

Woman dies, three injured in road crash

A woman was killed and three others were left injured on Thursday in a road accident near Ubaro, a town in Ghotki District. Reportedly, a truck ploughed into a motorcycle at Aadi Bungalow national highway.

Meanwhile, Taj Bibi died on the spot while Imran Solangi, Taj Muhammad and Badar sustained injuries and were shifted to a local hospital for medical treatment. The area police arrested the truck driver and started investigation.

One dies, another hurt in road accident near Dharki

A man died while another person suffered injuries on Thursday in a road accident near Daharki, a city of Ghotki District in the Sindh province. According to Daharki police sources, a tractor-trolley hurtled down a slope and collided with a motorcycle at Daharki bypass. Resultantly, a motorist identified as Nazeer Ahmed Solangi died on the spot while his brother was injured. He was shifted to taluka hospital for treatment while body of the deceased was handed over to his heirs after conducting medico-legal formality.

Meanwhile, the tractor-trolley driver managed to escape from the scene while police took vehicle into custody.

DC imposes Rs 46,000 fine on shopkeepers for violating Ramazan ordinance

The Sukkur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rahim Bux on Thursday imposed a fine of Rs46,000 on shop owners over violation of Ramazan ordinance and price control act. According to a report, the DC carried out surprise raids at many markets and food stalls of the district to monitor price control of essential commodities and eatables during the Islamic month of Ramazan. The administration of Sukkur imposed fines on many shopkeepers and stallholders, who were charging excessive rates. The DC further warned the market owners to strictly follow the rate list issued by the government and label it on their shops for customers’ convenience.

Delegation of Thammasat University in Thailand visits SALU

A nine-member delegation from Thammasat University in Thailand on Thursday visited the Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) in Khairpur for the promotion of academic linkage between the two universities regarding archaeology, anthropology and sociology.

Meanwhile, SALU Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Yousuf Khushk accorded a warm welcome to the delegation led by Prof Dr Yukti Mukdawijtra, Prof Dr Sudden Wisudthiluk and Prof Dr Terra Sindecharak. “Pakistan and Thailand enjoy friendly relations,” Dr Khushk said while briefing the delegation about academic, research and development of the University. He further emphasised the fact that Indus Civilisation is rich in terms of culture, history and civilisation, and thus possesses research potential in the fields of Anthropology, Sociology and Archaeology. “Soon, the academic collaboration and memorandum of understanding will be inked for the promotion of cultural linkages and research programmes,” he said.

JOBS Trust Pakistan Mir Muhammad Khokhar said that they had developed a cultural and educational relationship with Thammasat University. He revealed that SALU established “Pakistan Corner” for organising conferences and exhibitions.

Meanwhile, Dr Yukti MUKDAWIJTRA assured that Thammasat University will bridge academic links with SALU.

Besides, Post Graduate Studies Director Dr Ghulam Mohiuddin, Media Coordinator Dr Taj Muhammad Lashari, Ibrahim Khokhar, Syed Farooque Shah Rashdi, SALU registrar Imran Ali Soomro and others also attended the programme.
