Sir: The State bank of Pakistan (SBP) was inaugurated by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in 1948 at Karachi. It had four departments in the Central Directorate and three small branch offices located at Karachi, Lahore and Dacca.
It had the benefit of the services of only eight experienced officers who opted for service in SBP from the Reserve Bank of India. Central bank is the backbone of any country and its only institute which can build a country’s economy. For newborn country like Pakistan it was not an easy job for SBP with eight skilled officers and limited resources to build country’s economy to bring foreign banks in the country and control inflation but it was Quaid-e-Azam’s vision and hard work of SBP officers we are among the top ten fast growing countries with the best banking system nowadays. But only fewer know about the basic functions and history of our institutions, Marcus Garvey once said, “A person without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.”
It is my humble request to the government of Pakistan to include at least one lesson about SBP in our primary or high school syllabus for the new generation’s knowledge.
